I recently started a 1,000-piece puzzle, and let me tell you—it’s hard. The pieces are tiny. The colors and patterns are almost identical. After hours of sorting and squinting, I felt completely overwhelmed. When I couldn’t even find all of the edge pieces, I started doubting that I’d ever be able to finish it.
It reminded me how easily we can lose confidence when a challenge feels too big or progress feels too slow. Whether it’s a project at work, a new goal, or even a literal pile of puzzle pieces, the feeling of overwhelm is the same: Where do I even start?
Confidence doesn’t come from having it all figured out. If that were the case, no one would have confidence who tried something new or challenging.
We CREATE confidence when we shift the way we think about the challenge in front of us.
MINDSET SHIFTS
Here are three mindset shifts that helped me move from overwhelm to feeling more confident:
💡 Mindset Shift #1: I don’t have to do it all by myself.
When I felt stuck, I realized—I could ask for help. My husband and sons were more than willing to join me, and suddenly the challenge became fun and a team effort. Sometimes confidence means saying, “I can do this—with support.”
💡 Mindset Shift #2: One small section at a time.
I stopped staring at the mountain of pieces and started focusing on one corner. That’s all I needed to see progress. The same applies in life. Confidence builds when we take one small, doable step instead of trying to do everything at once.
💡 Mindset Shift #3: Trust the picture will come together in time.
Even when I couldn’t see how all of the pieces would fit, I trusted the process. Every piece put in place meant one step closer to completion. That’s how puzzles work, whether it’s a 100 piece puzzle or a 1,000 piece puzzle.
So if your “puzzle” right now feels impossible, remember: you don’t need to ace it from the start. You just need to begin, ask for help when you need it, and trust that every little piece counts.
If you need a resource to help you on your confidence journey, my book “Let Go of the Rope: Create Unlimited Confidence in 3 Simple Steps” provides a proven process. It’s available in print and as an e-book.
